
(Cultural News) According to her family, Hiroshima Atomic-bombing survivor and peace advocator Kaz Suyeishi of Torrance passed away at her home at the age of 90 on Monday, June 12.
Her funeral is schedule on Friday, June 23 at 2:00 pm at Gardena Buddhist Church, 1517 166th Street, Gardena, CA 90247. The funeral service is arranged by Fukui Mortuary of Los Angeles.
Suyeishi was born in January 1927 in Pasadena and after 6 months she was brought with her parents to Hiroshima. At the age of 18, she was exposed by the atomic-bombing in Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945.
At the age of 22 in 1949, she left Hiroshima for Hawaii and Los Angeles. In 1971, Suyeishi started to organize Hiroshima-Nagasaki atomic-bombing survivors in the U.S. which would become “the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors.”
Annual commemoration service marking the bombing will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 from 2- 4 pm at Koyasan Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo.
