LOS ANGELES - Physicians for Social Responsibility - Los Angeles hosted Lanterns of Hope: Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki, an event to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at around the fountain of Gloria Morina Grand Park in front of Los Angeles Music Center on Grand Avenue.
Orange County resident Kikuko Otake, a Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor, was invited as the keynote speaker of the event. Otake was five years old when Hiroshima was attached by the atomic bomb. She shared her family’s experience with about 20 participants of the event.
After speeches of the event, many small paper lanterns were floated by all participants on the fountain to honor the victims of the bombing.
