Nagasaki Ken Hibakusha Techo Tomonokai (Friends of Certificate Holder of Atomic Bombing Survivor in Nagasaki Prefecture) is holding their “Last Caravan” for the abolition of nuclear weapons, and will attend the Pearl Harbor Memorial Service in Honolulu on Dec. 7, 2025.
Led by Dr. Masao Tomonaga, 82 years old, Director Emeritus of the Japanese Red Cross Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Hospital, the “Last Caravan” of ten people including atomic bomb survivors and their second and third-generation descendants are traveling through Los Angeles, New Mexico, and Hawaii for two weeks starting Nov. 27, advocating for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
On December 7, they will attend the Pearl Harbor Memorial Service, and on December 8, they will hold an event in Honolulu to ring the "Bell of Nagasaki," which the Nagasaki’s atomic bomb survivor group donated to Honolulu 35 years ago.
For this event, Mayor Shiro Suzuki of Nagasaki entrusted Dr. Tomonaga with a letter addressed to the Mayor of Honolulu, expressing the shared hope that “Nagasaki will be the last atomic-bombed city.”
Upon arriving in the U.S. on November 28, the caravan visited the Koyasan Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, where they received prayers for a safe journey. Since 1989, the temple has preserved the Hiroshima Peace Flame, and every August, memorial services for Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb victims are held there.
The "Last Caravan" will return to Japan on Dec. 10.

長崎の被爆者グループが12月7日のハワイの真珠湾攻撃追悼式に参加
長崎県被爆者手帳友の会の「ラストキャラバン」は、12月７日ホノルルで行われる真珠湾攻撃追悼集会に参加する。
日本赤十字社長崎原爆病院の名誉院長の朝長万左男（ともなが・まさお、82歳）さんを団長とする、被爆者や被爆２・３世、の10人は、核兵器廃絶を訴えるため11月27日から2週間、ロサンゼルス、ニューメキシコ州、ハワイを巡っている。
12月7日には真珠湾攻撃の追悼式典に参列し、長崎県被爆者手帳友会が35年前にホノルルへ寄贈した「長崎の鐘」を、12月8日にホノルルで鳴らすイベントを行う。このイベントのため、長崎市の鈴木史朗市長はホノルル市長宛ての親書を託し、「長崎を最後の被爆地に」との思いの共有を呼びかけている。
キャラバンは、米国に到着した11月28日は、ロサンゼルス・リトル東京の 高野山米国別院を訪れて、旅の安全祈願を受けた。 高野山米国別院には、1989年から広島の平和の灯火が保存され、毎年、8月には広島・長崎原爆被爆者法要が行われている
「ラストキャラバン」は、12月10日に日本に戻る。
